Now I know why my elbows are so pointy

My job (copywriter at Inspiration Inc) teaches me a lot of things.

Like: increased pressure on bone tissue actually stimulates its growth. It even teaches me new words, like: ‘endodontist’, ‘prosthodontist’ and ‘periodontist’.

(I’ve been writing a website for a dental practice – not looking into a new career. Although I did find out that it only takes two weeks to become a cosmetic dentist. Frightening.)

Every day’s a school day at Inspiration Inc.

Sadly, I don’t think my computer software is as keen to learn as I am. It’s far too quick to cover my copy in lots of shouty red squiggles, only then asking me permission to learn from my ‘mistakes’.

Sheesh.

This week, I’ve acquired more knowledge that’s really reinforced the partially known fact that the right keywords are gold. Or more correctly, for the sense of pioneering-type adventure feel I’m trying to create, ‘gold dust’.

As I find out more about the guarded world of SEO and I get better at what I do, I’m beginning to understand that having a good bank of the phrases people use as search terms is really…

Key.

The right phrase will help Google help more people find you. Unsurprisingly, the more of these you have, the better.

(Although, not so good for your competitors.)

And whilst I too am now an upholder of the vow of secrecy surrounding SEO, I can afford to share this with you:

People expect Google to tell them what they want to know.

Think about that the next time you’re tapping in your shorthand to find your nearest ‘prosthodontist Dudley’.

It’s not English, it’s SEO.

Anyway. Here’s some rather more helpful stuff from a man called Dustin Curtis:

You should follow me on Twitter

‘Til next time, Breakfasteers.

Class dismissed.
