Sometimes, it doesn’t hurt to be reminded of something you already know.
Particularly when you’re working in an industry and a medium that moves quicker than the quickest thing you can think of.
(Think of something, quick.)
No matter how much things change, the fundamentals will always be crucial and getting them right should never be overlooked.
(Okay, okay – universal truths are easy to fall back on. But when I do use them, I do try to do something new with them…)
And sometimes, the most basic interaction with someone or something you don’t know can keep you grounded, when you’ve got your head in the electron clouds.
(See?)
Which is why when we received an email telling us:
“YOU NEVER GET A SECOND CHANCE TO MAKE THE FIRST IMPRESSION”
We decided to read on. Even though it was particularly SHOUTY.
“Message For inspirationinc”
Yup, that’s us, but before you continue, it’s probably worth knowing that we separate our inspiration from our ink – the two mix, but much like the boundless imagination of a child or a genius, or a child genius, the first needs a certain amount of marshalling in order to make the second truly shine.
“Dear Sir/Madam,”
Well done: almost all bases covered.
“We have visited your website.”
Good stuff. What did you think?
“And discovered that your product has amazing business potential.”
Er, yes. That’s right.
“But we found that your website is not registered in most of the leading search engines and directories. “
Hang on a minute…
“Which is a great disadvantage.”
Indeed, it would be, if that were true.
“We at Oxxx Ixxxxxxx offer professional services to market your website by submitting your site to all the leading search engines and directories.”
Wait – that’s what we do –
“We also provide PPC Campaign (Google Adword) services to advertise your business on Google top page with your preferred keyword.”
Did you really visit our website?!
“Right now we have more than 800 accounts.”
Really. Really?
Kindly view our Demonstration on www.xxxxxxxxxxxx.com.”
I think we’ll pass.
“You can view positioning of the web site promoted by us for some of our clients on www.xxxxxxxxxxxxx.com”
No.
“If you really want to promote your business globally by finding new customers for your product please mail us.”
No.
“Thanking you, Ms. Mxxxxx Jxxxx”
Well, I can’t fault the ‘Ps’ or the ‘Qs’. Apparently, they’re rather important the first time you meet someone.
Click here, and you can view positioning of the website promoted by us, for us.
Then tell us if you think we need to make a better first impression.
(We do really want you to tell us.)
Other things that keep us grounded
It’s all about how you put yourself out there, as Jonathan Morrow is talking about this week on Copyblogger:
Thanking you, Breakfasters.
‘Til next time,
Laura at Inspiration Inc
Great post Laura.
Some unfortunate and unsuspecting businesses get sucked in by these spam emails.
Your post highlights the lack of any real SEO knowledge from these con-artists.
I look forward to future posts.
Adrian
Thanks Adrian,
Inspiration lurks in the most unlikely of places!
